Constance Halaveli Preserving the Pristine Environment of the Maldives

Constance Halaveli

Constance Halaveli remains committed to its sustainability goals and has successfully implemented numerous green initiatives over the past two years.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, February 6, 2020 / — Green Globe recently recertified Constance Halaveli for the sixth consecutive year.

Constance Halaveli is an intimate and luxurious hideaway located on the Maldives’ North Ari Atoll. The tropical resort remains committed to its sustainability goals and has successfully implemented numerous green initiatives over the past two years.

Tangi Le Grand, General Manager of Constance Halaveli said, “Constance Halaveli maintains its Green Globe Gold status in 2020. This prestigious acknowledgement is a great accomplishment for Constance Halaveli and the dedication, passion and continuous efforts by all our teams has enabled us to bring improvements to all respective areas within the resort. As we move forward into the next five years, we will endeavour to meet and exceed the green targets that are currently in place.

“Sustainability within the Constance Hotels & Resorts is defined as carrying out our business in line with the company’s guiding principles of being conscious of global environmental issues and acknowledging our responsibility towards the environment. At Constance Halaveli, we are constantly aware of the risks of our operations to the natural surroundings and local communities. We realize that our operations may produce significant environmental impacts as we consume large quantities of resources and generate waste. We also recognize that our activities can have both a positive and negative affect on these areas and that we have responsibilities to manage these impacts.

“When you think of the Maldives you picture islands surrounded by white sandy beaches and calm, sparkling turquoise waters. Unfortunately, as with many seaside resorts, plastic waste and other non-biodegradable materials have caused detrimental effects on the environment. Luckily, there are some key organizations in the Maldives that care about the environment and are making a huge effort, on a local level, to involve not only tourists but also community members to raise awareness of this situation and help make a difference in protecting fragile ecosystems. We work alongside local people toward marine conservation and preserving the pristine environment of the Maldives.”

Collaboration with Parley

Constance Halaveli first partnered with Parley Ocean School in 2018 as part of its plastic recycling efforts. Around 51,300kg of plastic bottles, that’s equivalent to 9.5 Asian Elephants, are collected on the island, transported to Male and then on to Germany for recycling where they are made into items such as Adidas sport shoes.

Nature Guide Booklet

The resort’s Nature Walk Booklet, distributed in villas, contains information by resident biologists about the ecological history of the island, its native wildlife and the many plant species. Sections are dedicated to marine creatures and birdlife such as Sally-Light -Foot Crabs and Black-Naped Terns as well as indigenous Banyan Palms and Halaveli Bushes. Maps, photos and detailed descriptions are provided for self-guided walks.

Green News Magazine

To raise awareness and promote the resort’s sustainability efforts, a Green News Magazine is displayed on an inhouse TV channel in guest villas. The magazine announces annual environmental events including World Environment Day, Earth Hour and World Oceans Day when fun activities such as sand sculpting, lagoon cleaning and gardening are organised. Charitable events sponsored by Constance Halaveli are also highlighted such as the Dhiraagu Road Race, the largest annual run held in the Maldives, where people and communities from all over the country gather together to support the protection of children. In addition, Breast Cancer Fun Runs and donations of stationery supplies for local school children are other social activities organised by the property.

Sustainability efforts at Constance Halaveli are communicated regularly via the magazine. Plastic bags and straws are banned and have been replaced with reusable bags and paper straws. Also, to encourage guests’ participation in nature preservation actions, a Batteries Recycling Bag is provided for visitors to take their old batteries (as well as those used by others) back home for recycling as there are no recycling facilities located nearby.

Furthermore, guests are educated about ethical souvenirs and encouraged to purchase and support native crafts that use traditional plant materials like coconut husk or leaves for woodwork and woven products. This deters proliferating any demand for items using coral, shells and turtle shell materials that leads to loss of biodiversity.

No Child Left Out: Learning at All Levels

All children are involved during learning and nutrition activities.

All children are involved during learning and nutrition activities.

Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Provider Charisma Grygorczuk from Balch Springs, TX featured by the National CACFP Sponsors Association

Everyone is involved in every activity in some way. No one is left out, no matter the age.”

— Charisma Grygorczuk

AUSTIN, TX, USA, January 23, 2020 / — When Charisma Gryogorczuk’s granddaughter needed daily child care, she gladly accepted the opportunity and started her own child care business. She had been a successful entrepreneur and felt this would be the best and most rewarding business she could ever hope to open. At her child care, it is her goal to involve all the children as much as possible on different age-appropriate levels.

“I want to treat all of the children like they are my own and want do for them what I wanted to do for my granddaughter. Everyone is involved in every activity in some way. No one is left out, no matter the age.”

While focusing on social interaction skills and emotional wellness, children learn through hands-on activities, arts and crafts, music and play. One of their favorite activities is cooking class once a week. Everyone discusses the recipe and where age-appropriate, children help. Charisma strongly believes that if the children can help and actually prep their own food, they are more apt to try it.

Through her CACFP sponsor, Charisma participated in the Healthy Start, Healthy Children Program. In the program, the children participated in cooking classes and physical activities. The children loved making snack recipes and taking part in taste tests. Charisma enjoyed watching them try new foods and liking them simply because they were a part of the creation. To add to the learning, Charisma attended nutrition classes to gain new ideas and resources.

Charisma is constantly looking for ways to improve learning and keep the children active. She has applied for grants to add gardening tools and materials, cooking utensils and an outdoor classroom. In addition, when seeing an idea the children love, such as a butterfly garden, they implement that at the child care. Charisma leads by example when seeing a beneficial idea for the children and using her own initiative to be the best child care provider she can be.

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, US, January 16, 2020 / — On Jan. 11, The Way to Happiness Association (TWTH) of Tampa Bay and the Clearwater Community Volunteers (CCV) partnered to host a gardening workshop and plant give-away for nearly 50 children and families from the Tampa Bay area. The inspiration for the event came from a section of the common sense guide The Way to Happiness, titled “Help Take Care of the Planet.”

In this section, The Way to Happiness author L. Ron Hubbard states, “There are many things one can do to help take care of the planet. They begin with the idea that one should. They progress with suggesting to others they should. Man has gotten up to the potential of destroying the planet. He must be pushed on up to the capability and actions of saving it. It is, after all, what we’re standing on.”

The event in downtown Clearwater started at the TWTH center, where younger children participated in arts and crafts while adults engaged in a seminar with a local groundsman, providing basic information on designing gardens and answering questions.

Once finished, attendees walked down the street to the CCV center for the plant give-away. Michael Soltero, CCV Center Manager, said to attendees, “If each one of us did our part to take care of the planet, even if only on our front doorstep, it would be setting a good example for others to follow. Take home the plants you’re getting today and between all of us we can help make our community that much better.”

The Way to Happiness Association of Tampa Bay:

The Way to Happiness book was written and published by L. Ron Hubbard in 1981 as a nonreligious, common-sense guide to better living. Its purpose is to help arrest the current moral decline in society and restore integrity and trust to humankind. It is available in 112 languages, with some 115 million copies distributed in 186 nations. The campaign to distribute the book has been embraced by more than 257,000 groups and individuals and millions around the world have received the materials free of charge thanks to the continued sponsorship of the Church of Scientology. The Way to Happiness holds the Guinness World Record as the single most-translated nonreligious book and fills the moral vacuum in an increasingly materialistic society.
